Are You Afraid of the Dentist?
An estimated 30 to 40 million Americans avoid seeing the dentist because of anxiety and fear. Some patients will do almost anything to avoid a dental visit, even if that means enduring pain or gum infection. Poor oral health may result in serious medical conditions such as heart disease or lung infection if left untreated. Don’t let dental anxiety control your life.
Phobias and fears can stem from:
- Negative past experiences
- Fear of pain or needles
- Loss of control
- Feeling vulnerable in a dental chair
We understand that dental anxiety is real, which is why Dr. Carley incorporates sedation dentistry into our dental implant procedures to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible.
Dr. Carley has been caring for his patients’ dental needs for over a decade with his wide-ranging experience and expertise. Mountain and Sea Dental and Associates recognizes your worries and we want to help. Our goal is to give you the relaxing care you deserve without any added stress. Dr. Carley’s talent and compassion make him the perfect dentist for you.
Our Soothing Environment
No one wants to walk into a murky, chilling-looking dentist office first thing in the morning. The comfort of our patients is what motivates us to create a more welcoming and supportive environment. Our Santa Barbara office is personalized towards the well-being of our patients, especially for those feeling anxious and uneasy.
If you’re feeling nervous at the beginning of your appointment, we’ll comfort you with simple breathing exercises. Our caring staff will take the necessary steps to ensure you’re relaxed for your exam or procedure with this technique.
Our multimedia office displays ceiling monitors for an enjoyable distraction throughout your appointment. You have the option of choosing between your favorite sitcom or a feature film. We also play soothing music throughout our office to support a calming atmosphere.
Safe Sedation Methods by Dr. Carley
Here at Mountain and Sea Dental and Associates, we want our patients to feel at ease when walking into our office. Dr. Carley is recognized by the California Dental Board in Oral Conscious Sedation which allows him to safely perform dental sedation procedures and provide exceptional care to his patients. We feature personalized treatment plans with oral and intravenous sedatives to make you as comfortable as possible.
Our team will thoroughly oversee your well-being while the sedatives are being administered to ensure your safety. Subject to the duration and complexity of the procedure, either IV or oral sedation may be used during your procedure. You’ll remain alert to instructions, but there’s a good chance you won’t recall your procedure when your appointment is completed.
We highly advise having a designated driver the day of your appointment, conditional on your sedation choice.
Intravenous sedation is a common and safe sedation method. IV sedation allows us to perform complicated dental work within a shorter amount of time. Ahead of your appointment, you’ll be given oral medication for anxiety relief.
Once you check in, our welcoming staff will direct you to one of our soothing rooms to administer an IV. This controlled sedative allows you to enter a deeper state of relaxation.
IV sedation works immediately, ensures comfort and ease, and is cost-effective.
Oral conscious sedatives stimulate a tranquil mental state for the duration of your appointment. At the time of your arrival, you’ll be given oral medication to settle your nerves. This minimal to moderate dosage is used to treat anxiety and help patients remain calm during their visit, not to treat pain or oral conditions. A local anesthetic may be provided for pain if necessary.
Oral sedation has minimal effects, wears off after the procedure, and is cost-effective. This method is safe and efficient, allowing us to provide the care you need.
